Lawrence Brown represents businesses and individuals in sophisticated and high stakes asset forfeiture matters. Since leaving the U.S. Department of Justice over twenty year ago, Mr. Brown has established a long track record of achieving outstanding results for clients in seizure and forfeiture cases. He has successfully represented clients in some of the largest (by dollar amount) forfeiture prosecutions ever pursued by U.S. law enforcement. In a recent U.S. District court trial, Mr. Brown achieved an acquittal on nine counts of money laundering and one count of structuring monetary transaction and as a result of these acquittals, prevented the forfeiture of over $16,000,000.00 of his client’s assets.

When law enforcement agencies seize and seek the forfeiture of assets, tremendous hardship to businesses and individuals can result. In some cases, a seizure and forfeiture action can jeopardize the viability of a business and threaten jobs and livelihoods. Mr. Brown has a firm understanding of the hardships that asset seizures and forfeiture cases can create for clients. He always seeks to achieve speedy and economical resolutions for clients, favoring negotiated settlements if the right terms can be achieved. As demonstrated above, however, he is ready, willing and able to proceed to court to protect a client’s assets and is capable of defeating the government in asset forfeiture litigations.

The Martindale-Hubble Directory lists Mr. Brown as a preeminent attorney (awarded to approximately 5% of practicing attorneys nationwide) and has awarded him its AV rating (highest possible for legal proficiency and professional ethics).

Prior to entering the private practice of law, Mr. Brown worked as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division in Washington, D.C., where he represented the United States in numerous high profile and sophisticated criminal tax and white collar criminal investigations and trials.

Before joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Brown served on active duty as a U.S. Navy Judge Advocate, where he prosecuted and led investigations in a number of high profile cases including courts-martial of senior officers and two national security cases. Mr. Brown achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander and his decorations included the Navy Commendation Medal (awarded for performance above and beyond the call of duty).
